Analyst's rigor, builder's instinct.

I'm Matthew Dettman, a builder and analyst based in Clarksburg, West Virginia. I take projects end to end, from discovery and requirements through design, build, deployment, and validation.

Most of my work is business analytics: dashboards, data pipelines, and automation. I built a platform that reads small-business accounting data, turned a wealth-management firm's spreadsheet risk indicator into an automated R pipeline, and built economic dashboards from public data. I use Python, R, SQL, Power BI, and Firebase, with LLM integration where it helps the task.

The domain depth under that is a decade in regulated financial services. At a national broker-dealer I moved from field branch examinations to regional supervision reviewing advisor-managed portfolios that internal controls had flagged, and then to a supervisory-controls team analyzing reports and monitoring across supervision functions. That work taught me to examine the definitions, exceptions, and source data behind a number.

That is the reason I care about false positives and about getting a number right. A rule that flags everything is the same as a rule that flags nothing, because a review queue has a fixed budget. The same discipline shows up in the software: validation, edge cases, and reconciliation checks, so a dashboard's number ties back to its source. I hold an M.S. in Business Data Analytics from West Virginia University, plus the ChFC and CLU designations.
